About a month ago I came across today’s guest on Instagram. Since following him, I’ve enjoyed watching his coverage over all things tv and film. Vincent Perella is the Senior Social and Culture Editor at IndieWire. He’s also a photographer and, from what I’ve read via IndieWire’s website, an incredible espresso martini maker. He started IndieWire’s red carpet coverage a few years ago and has since interviewed the likes of Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, Rachel Sennott, and many more. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Vincent in person, but I can tell we would get along. Here are his sixteen answers.
What’s your favorite coffee shop in NYC?
Devocion for when I need to be cracked out, Nook when I want a perfect place to work, and Lion's Milk when I need to flex a hidden gem.
What are your favorite films of the year so far?
Anora, Queer, The Substance, and Armand. Have a strong hunch Babygirl and The Brutalist are going to join the list when I see them soon.
Who are some of your favorite celebrities right now?
I think the holy trinity of it-boys right now is Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, and Josh O'Connor. I think Mikey Madison is also on a fast track to join the reign of it-girls once Anora comes out (she's currently my top pick to win the Oscars Best Actress race).
Who’s your favorite artist? (Dead or Alive)
Lana Del Rey, hands down. Have been a fan of hers since her Lizzie Grant days (have over 150+ unreleased and demos on my phone, oops!).
What’s your favorite neighborhood in New York?
Williamsburg! Could truly spend all day and night there, and spill over into Greenpoint and Bushwick effortlessly.
Gold or silver jewelry?
Gold, I'm too computer paper white to pull off silver.
What would you be in another life if you weren’t in the career you’re in now?
Late night talk show host — can yap like you'd never believe.
If there was a Vincent Perella starter pack what would be in it?
Dunkin' iced coffee, Hendricks dirty martini, Aquaphor, Digicam, white tee, blue jeans, black loafers, and Criterion Collection tote bag.
What’s your favorite restaurant?
Kiki's in the Lower East Side or Bamonte's in Williamsburg.
If you had to move out of New York where would you go?
Ugh, I hate to even say it, but I fear it would be LA. Though, I don't see myself ever leaving New York.
What’s a movie, album, and book you’re loving at the moment?
Movie: Anora
Album: Romance by Fontaines D.C.
Book: The Shards by Bret Easton Ellis
What does your ideal morning look like?
Really trying to enter my morning person bag, but typically wake up at 7:30am, mandatory play on phone for 30 minutes, go to the gym, hit Dunkin' on my way home, shower, and crack open the laptop/head to the office.
What does your ideal evening look like?
Work tends to wrap around 6pm, then I love meeting up with a friend or two for a happy hour, head home by 9pm to watch a movie by myself in bed, do skincare, and pass out.
What are two things that are out and two things that are in?
In: Learning how to *enjoyably* spend time by yourself and self-awareness.
Out: Any cell phone use in a movie theater and red-eye flights.
What’s inspiring you most right now?
Going on tour with one of my best friends in a few weeks, which is motivating me to heavily grind so I can enjoy a full week of being unplugged.
What are you working on right now?
The craziness (complimentary) of the New York Film Festival.
